Tuule Sõnad

Two voices, one instrument
Two voices, one shared instrument – and an astonishing universe of sound.
Estonian musicians Ann-Lisett Rebane and Katariina Kivi have developed a musical language entirely their own. Standing on opposite sides of a single traditional Estonian kannel, they pluck, strum and tap its strings and body, weaving together hypnotic rhythms, delicate melodies and beautifully intertwined vocal harmonies.
Rooted in Estonian folk traditions, their music ventures far beyond conventional boundaries, combining ancient influences with contemporary songwriting, unexpected textures and an unmistakable sense of intimacy.
Sometimes the simplest musical ideas make the deepest impression.
In just a few years, Duo Ruut have captivated audiences in more than 20 countries, appearing at internationally renowned festivals and venues including Glastonbury, WOMAD, Celtic Connections, Trans Musicales, STIMMEN and Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie.
Their remarkable ability to create what MOJO described as a “band-sized sound” with just one instrument and two voices has attracted attention from international media including BBC, The Guardian, Songlines, KEXP and Rolling Stone.

Their acclaimed second album, Ilmateade, explores the relationship between people, nature and the ever-changing weather through traditional Estonian texts and contemporary compositions.
The album was selected as Folk Album of the Month by The Guardian and received enthusiastic international media coverage.
In 2025, Duo Ruut were named Artist of the Year at the Estonian Ethno Music Awards.
Two voices. One instrument. Endless possibilities.
