The name Mokoomba stems from the deep respect that the Tonga have for the Zambezi River and for the vibrant life that it brings to their music and culture. Mokoomba brings audiences an electrifying blend of Afro-fusion and tantalizing traditional Tonga rhythms, led by the exceptional voice from lead vocalist Mathias Muzaza. Mokoomba created a real buzz during their first European tours in 2009 and 2010, performing at prestigious stages all over Europe and playing as opening act for the Cranberries at various occasions. Their 2nd CD "Rising Tide" produced by the great Ivorian bass player and singer Manou Gallo was released in spring 2012 and has gained many awards and attention all over the world. Mokoomba played many more high-profile festivals such as Roskilde and Sziget in the following years. After a little break Mookomba entered the live circuit again in 2016 and toured in Europe and the USA very successfully. In 2017 Mokoomba will finally release their long awaited third album! Their brand-new acoustic album will be released in February 2017 in Europe with Outhere Records. February 2017 also marks the beginning of their world wide acoustic tour. Mokoomba is a rollercoaster ride of raw Afrofusion energy! This exciting Tonga group from Zimbabwe certainly has a unique sound that is set to take the world music scene by storm!
