Moonlight
Benjamin was born in Haiti and grew up in a protestant orphanage
- as a teenager she started to sing at church.
Twelve
years after she began her career as a world music artist, and in
parallel with different jazz and world music collaborations, she
finally found her own unique musical style:
a powerful and original fusion between Caribbean voodoo melodies & rhythms and the 70's US blues rock. These elements in combination with Moonlight's powerful and rebellious voice, singing in Haitian Creole and French, plus the tension of saturated guitars are creating an intoxicating voodoo trance in a very new and explosive style. In 2018 Moonlight Benjamin released her new personal project and her third album "Siltane", this time with a special focus on more electronic music, supported by guitarist and arranger Matthis Pascaud. Two years later, in 2020, Moonlight Benjamin is back with "Simido", an album carried by the powerful voice of this Haitian singer. With this new opus, she continues her exploration of a unique Caribbean blues rock with saturated guitar riffs, entirely sung in Creole. |
