Born
in London to Jamaican parents, Shirley has lived in Australia
for many years. Her way to become the lead vocalist for the
Silverbacks was pure coincidence. At a concert by Sharon Jones
& The Dap-Kings in Madrid, the Tucxone Records team was also
attending, Shirley was brought on stage by the audience. She
sang with Sharon, and Tucxone knew immediately that they had to
sign Shirley. She accepted on the spot. The rest is history.
The
Silverbacks are the stars of the Spanish soul scene and
the flagship band of Tucxone Records, on whose sound the label
is built.
In
March 2016 Shirley started leading The Silverbacks, entering the
international soul scene with their debut album "Black Rose".
This award-winning album did not only inspire the critics
worldwide, but also colleagues such as Lee Fields. "Black Rose"
- pure soul with a touch Afrobeat - earned Shirley Davis
& The Silverbacks the title "Best New International
Artist" at the Pop-Eye Awards in 2016.
In April 2018 Shirley & The Silverbacks released their 2nd
album "Wishes & Wants" on which the melodies and rhythms
sound stronger than ever before - a colourful blend of
exotic soul and funk; light and heavy.
Keep on Keeping on is the promising title of the new 3rd album by Shirley Davis & The Silverbacks to be released in stores in April 2020 that evokes the golden years of Chicago soul music. |
