The journey

Twelve tracks.
Seven languages.
One odyssey.

Movement, longing, friendship and the encounter between cultures: Odiseja takes its name and its spirit from the idea of an odyssey.

The second album by the Vienna-based ensemble moves between intimate moments and exuberant dances. Original compositions meet carefully chosen traditional songs. Musical landscapes change, while the five musicians’ shared voice carries the journey forward.

Balkan melodies, Klezmer and Gypsy Swing form its foundation. The music opens onto Mediterranean colours and cinematic stories, moving between melancholy and the joy of life.

Inside the music

An odyssey
you can hear.

Seven languages give the songs different colours and rhythms. Across them, the ensemble’s close interplay holds the journey together.

01

Follow the voices.

Begin with “Yéraki” and “Alona”. Listen to the phrasing, the sound of each language and the conversation between voice and instruments.

02

Listen between the melodies.

The violin and accordion draw the ear. Follow the guitar, bass and percussion beneath them: the small rhythmic details that give a melody its lift.

03

Leave room for movement.

Intimate passages and exuberant dances belong to the same journey. On stage, that shift becomes an invitation to listen closely — and to move together.

Odiseja on stage

An invitation
to come alive.

The live programme brings the album’s stories, languages and musical encounters to the stage. Raffaela Gmeiner and Jasmin Meiri’s voices meet violin, accordion, guitar, double bass, mandolin and percussion in a five-piece ensemble built around close interplay and generous energy.

Baba Yaga have appeared at Rudolstadt, Bardentreffen Nürnberg, Festival du Bout du Monde and Vienna’s Konzerthaus. In 2027, GRIOT brings the new Odiseja programme to European festivals and concert halls.
